Working Together

The concept of people working together working Together is seemingly an easy one to master. All employees come to work for the same reason: to further themselves professionally and advance the goals of the company for which they work. Periodic review of the best steps for interpersonal relations among co-workers improves the experience of working together.

Respect Space and Time The first step to working together is to respect the space of others around you. When you infringe upon another’s space frequently and overbearingly, he generally feels less inclined to want to collaborate with you. The second step is to respect people’s time. Encourage and Reward Creativity The third step to working together is to encourage those working with and around you to be as creative as possible, particularly in their various approaches to projects or job-related tasks and responsibilities. The more creative the approach, the more likely it is that your colleagues will find innovative and more effective ways of doing things. A fourth step is to reward creativity. Create a Diverse Workforce and Educate Staff The fifth step to working together is to celebrate the various cultures represented by office staff.

Diversity among employees ensures that a collection of views and beliefs contribute to each task and project, ensuring a well-rounded approach that may not be obtained otherwise. A sixth step is education of staff on the importance of diversity in the workplace. Provide Access to and Take Advantage of Resources A seventh step to working together in the workplace is providing access to resources for all members of the staff. From an office-supply room to training programs that help workers to become more effective in their jobs, more available resources make people feel more confident when doing their jobs.

An eighth step is the ability and willingness to take advantage of resources offered by the company. Offer Support and Have Fun Offering support to everyone working with you or under you is different from offering access to resources. This ninth step to working together in the workplace involves maintaining an open-door policy that encourages staffers and peers to come to you with problems that they cannot resolve on their own.
